Before we get started, here are some basic Q&A's about cell phone text messaging and text message gateways.

Q. What is a text message gateway?

A. A text message gateway is a device that can be remotely activated via radio (simplex or repeater {repeated or call up macro}) or by other remote or local means, that will send text messages to one or more cell phones, alpha-numeric pagers or regular Email accounts.

Q. Why would you want to send text messages to groups of people?

A. There are many reasons.

  • To remind club members about a net or a club meeting.
  • To alert the activation of an A.R.E.S. or Skywarn net.
  • To notify emergency response team members of an event.

Q. I already have a radio, why use other devices?

A. Many individuals use cell phones, pagers, and computers for personal and/or professional communication. Individuals that are serious about emergency response use these devices for the times that they can't listen to a radio, yet have the need for notification of potential or immediate activation.

You don't need the radio interface to use the software on a personal computer and get powerful features like:

  • Send a cell phone text message to anyone - right now!
  • Configure up to 8 Groups of cell phone text message recipients - and the recipients don't have to be on the same network!
  • Any Recipient or Group message can be pre-configured or ad-hoc!
  • Group messages can be scheduled on by:
    • Every Day at a predetermined time
    • Every Weekday at a predetermined time
    • Every Week on a predetermined day of the week and at a predetermined time
    • Every Month on a predetermined week of the month and a predetermined day of the week and at a predetermined time
